  • This Is How We Tie It Up…

On August 16th I found a bear friend, and we chilled.
    NextBlog - 01

I was trying to right a Music Video pitch.
    NextBlog - 02

But it’s hard work, and sometimes you feel like doing this.
    NextBlog - 03

    Well, every body does.
    NextBlog - 04

    Even couples.
    NextBlog - 06 NextBlog - 05

The next day, Kerri finally got her birthday present from Jenna, her very on piece of original art.
    NextBlog - 07

The artist and birthday girl were both very excited.
    NextBlog - 08

Thursday would be another disappointing day at Linzie’s.
    NextBlog - 09

I kept playing well and getting hugely unlucky.
    NextBlog - 10

But the night can’t go wrong when you end it up in some random frat bar.
    NextBlog - 11

Except it didn’t end, we went back to John’s for a late night sesh. Where once again I fell to Fortuna’s cursed wheel.
    NextBlog - 12

    But the sunrise was nice.
    NextBlog - 13

The next day, disliking my unruly hirsute scruffiness, I treated myself to a wonderful trip to SuperCuts.
    NextBlog - 14

It was the best Super Cuts has ever treated me.
    NextBlog - 15

And right on time too, for my snazzy dinner at Craft.
    NextBlog - 16

Where Jenna and I enjoyed the best that Colechio had to offer. And god Damn! it was good. The man knows how to cook corn like nobody’s business! Here and at Craft Steak.
    NextBlog - 17

I even told him so in the suggestions letter.

  • When The Glass Blows…

About one month ago, Jenna took her first trip on Metro North.
    ChihuliBlog - 01

    It was a sexy experience.
    ChihuliBlog - 02

Because we were headed to the awesome Chihuly show at the Bronx Botanical Garden.
    ChihuliBlog - 03

Who’s Chihuly, you might ask? He is this one eyed artist that designs amazing glass sculptures like this one.
    ChihuliBlog - 04

    Check out that cool action.
    ChihuliBlog - 05

They were huge and wonderful in the foliage space.
    ChihuliBlog - 06

    Some were small and hidden.
    ChihuliBlog - 07

And it felt like an art easter egg hunt.
    ChihuliBlog - 08

The huge balloons just hung there like luscious grapes.
    ChihuliBlog - 09

Jenna posed with the glass snakes.
    ChihuliBlog - 10

This guy just really has a crazy aesthetic. Such wondrous shapes.
    ChihuliBlog - 11

    Like this humoungous ceiling fixure.
    ChihuliBlog - 12

Ooohh, spotted another hidden one in the desert.
    ChihuliBlog - 13

Outdoors, the whole pool was lined with these.
    ChihuliBlog - 14

And the pond itself had some treasures.
    ChihuliBlog - 15

    The fish for one.
    ChihuliBlog - 16

But the boat was just full of surprises.
    ChihuliBlog - 17

    We loved it.
    ChihuliBlog - 18

This majestic number lights up at night, wish I could see that.
    ChihuliBlog - 19

More scavenger hunts. Can you spot the Chihuly?
    ChihuliBlog - 20

    In the shadows.
    ChihuliBlog - 21

    Hanging in the trees.
    ChihuliBlog - 22

    Just pinking it out.
    ChihuliBlog - 23

    Our chilling in the fountain.
    ChihuliBlog - 24

Or just sharing a Jenna moment.
    ChihuliBlog - 25

The next outdoor pool also was surrounded.
    ChihuliBlog - 26

But these little glass cacti really did it for me.
    ChihuliBlog - 27

    More stuffed boats.
    ChihuliBlog - 28

    More flamingo shapes.
    ChihuliBlog - 29

And another piece de resistance, this large ass globe of snakes.
    ChihuliBlog - 30

    Look at that texture.
    ChihuliBlog - 31

Then next installation we found near the rose garde.
    ChihuliBlog - 32

    Look at these wonderful flowers.
    ChihuliBlog - 33

    Don’t they just feel,
    ChihuliBlog - 34

    So O’keefe vaginal?
    ChihuliBlog - 35

    We thought so.
    ChihuliBlog - 36

    What great color.
    ChihuliBlog - 38 ChihuliBlog - 37

    And what cool blue.
    ChihuliBlog - 39

    Just purely unique.
    ChihuliBlog - 40

    Awwww. What a cute couple.
    ChihuliBlog - 41

That last pieces were these great big bowls.
    ChihuliBlog - 42

    The had the craziest colores.
    ChihuliBlog - 48 ChihuliBlog - 47

    Just a magical room.
    ChihuliBlog - 45

    With deep deep shade combinations.
    ChihuliBlog - 46 ChihuliBlog - 44
    ChihuliBlog - 43 ChihuliBlog - 49

    Lovely.
    ChihuliBlog - 50

On the way out we crossed the Bronx river, which i didn't even know existed.
    ChihuliBlog - 51

But wait, there was just one more Chihuly to see, hidden in the swamp.
    ChihuliBlog - 52

    Floating rock-like structures.
    ChihuliBlog - 53

    Shining in the scum.
    ChihuliBlog - 54

    Making everyone smile.
    ChihuliBlog - 55

And what would a trip to a Botanical garden be without shrub sculpting?
    ChihuliBlog - 56

    Not much I say.
    ChihuliBlog - 57

    Thank you metro north.
    ChihuliBlog - 58

Thank you Chihuly. Thank you America.
    ChihuliBlog - 59

And thank you Klong, for ending the day with an incredibly fresh fruit salad.
    ChihuliBlog - 60

  • Concerts And Other Tales…

After much delay, I think this will get us back to the present. We begin with a nice poker game at Sean’s house.
    ConcertBlog - 01

I tried to give Bomba’s girl a few tips.
    ConcertBlog - 02

But should have saved them for myself, seeing as I played way too loose and lost fifteen dollars.
    ConcertBlog - 03

That Friday, Jenna and I had a special concert treat. After not
performing for about 15 years, the incredible Os Mutantes came to town,
    and we had tickets.
    ConcertBlog - 04

We saw Nicole’s boyfriend Doug there randomly, the city being as small as it is.
    ConcertBlog - 05

The female lead singer of the group has regrettably passed away, but
the show went on with a new lady at the mike. And it was plain old
fuckin awesome. No joke, hearing Nina Menhina live goes down as a
    milestone.
    ConcertBlog - 06

I mean, look at how psyched we are.
    ConcertBlog - 07

And yes, I’m becoming that guy that buys the shirt at every concert, don’t judge too harshly.
    ConcertBlog - 08

I thought my already excellent night would end there, but there was
more to come. A late Friday night poker session was just beginning at
    Aaron’s brand new apartment.
    ConcertBlog - 09

And what a fucking place to OWN. Large living room with a nice kitchen, and a huge bedroom.
    ConcertBlog - 10

    Even althea was jealous.
    ConcertBlog - 11

I played the calling station and the bluffer and lost early, than
worked it back, but missed out on a huge rutkoff bluff to come out a
bit down. But at that apartment, how could you ever end the night sad?
    ConcertBlog - 12

Less than 18 hours later, we had yet another concert, can you believe?
The Eagles Of Death Metal, a testosterone fueled man’s man rock
extravaganza that with plenty of “Let me hear it for the Ladies.”
    ConcertBlog - 13

We let them hear it. Who doesn’t give it up for the ladies?
    ConcertBlog - 14

They were the original reason for coming, but we were so very
pleasantly surprised to know that they were just the openers for the
    one and only “Peaches.”
    ConcertBlog - 15

And she put on a fucking show, let me tell you. Climbing on to the
second level and siging from the VIP area. Slowly undressing piece by
bedazzled piece until she ran around in her jewled skivvies. Throwing
in a brief interludes of bike riding, and inflatable penises. She even
had a uniformed back up band replete with awe inspiring hot chic
drummer, keytar player that didn’t suck, and well heeled roadie that
would catch and move her instruments in perfect unison.
    ConcertBlog - 16

The night went on with a revisit to Fat Baby to meet up with Jenna’s friends for a birthday celebration.
    ConcertBlog - 17

    The wild and crazy girls.
    ConcertBlog - 18

    And me.
    ConcertBlog - 19

    Birthday girl showing the tude.
    ConcertBlog - 20

We soon discovered that the clubbing scene might not be our thing. Don’t we just look super pleased?
    ConcertBlog - 21

It was a passionate ride home.
    ConcertBlog - 22

I had been working really hard on a set of Dell commercials, and the
cool account person acknowledged it by taking jenna and me out to a
    nice dinner.
    ConcertBlog - 23

We finally checked out Batali’s Babo, and were highly pleased.
Unpictured, the greatest salad I have ever ingested. I kid you not, I
still think about it. The freshest, best blended Caprese in history.
    ConcertBlog - 24

    Thanks, Elizabeth.
    ConcertBlog - 25

The dinner was also Jenna’s last night. She was off to LA to assist JJ on an NFL job. Thus I began a stag week.
    ConcertBlog - 26

Which included getting invited to the Soho house Ping Pong tournament.
    ConcertBlog - 27

Where I got a tough seed on the first round…
    ConcertBlog - 28

And left totally ashamed by a tragic loss. Jason, my coworker, went all the way to the top.
    ConcertBlog - 29

An impromptu small Thursday game at upper west, would end up being the last one in that great apartment.
    ConcertBlog - 30

    So long glorious courtyard.
    ConcertBlog - 31

Walking along 3rd Ave, I saw a blast from the past. How many Americans know the wonders of Gansito?
    ConcertBlog - 32

That Saturday, I hit McCarren pool for the first time.
    ConcertBlog - 33

To get a load of some delicious Bloc Party.
    ConcertBlog - 34

And even saw Jason there (not randomly), and Jenn from On The Road With Judas (totally randomly).
    ConcertBlog - 35

I love the Pool as a venue. This huge rusting space used for good. But if you don’t hurry up and leave.
    ConcertBlog - 36

You can get stuck in the terrible bottleneck. So look out for that.
    ConcertBlog - 37

Aaaaah. Jenna finally returns. Welcome back babe.
    ConcertBlog - 38

Why don’t we celebrate?  Sure. Let’s hit up some Craft Steak.
    ConcertBlog - 39

Where the wine selection goes through the roof.
    ConcertBlog - 40

    And the candles feel romantic.
    ConcertBlog - 41

The soufflé is highly recommended. Also check out the 250 day aged porterhouse.
    ConcertBlog - 42

At work, the short lived runner Emily quit, as always more on that at the PS Blog.
    ConcertBlog - 43

But you will never find me with a bra on my head there.
    ConcertBlog - 44

Which brings us to some of the best news ever: I got two more Voice
Over gigs! Oh. Fucking. Yeah. Scrilla dilla. I’ll post them later.
    ConcertBlog - 45

Randomly walking down the street, on my way to poker, who do I bump
into but Bomba’s girlfriend? She was working just down the street.
    ConcertBlog - 46

Regrettably, because I’ve been failing at blogging so hard, I don’t
even really remember what happened at this sesh. I think I was doing
well until I got a terrible beat from Bomba on a huge hand. He spiked
his two-outer, and I fought back for even. Wait, I guess I do remember.
    ConcertBlog - 47

Saturday Jenna and I filmed this little number.
    ConcertBlog - 48

And then went to check out the Chihuly’s at the Botanical Garden.
    ConcertBlog - 49

Which you’ll just have to wait and see cause im tired.
    ConcertBlog - 54

  • Post Mexico Round Up…

Hey remember me? I used to post here.
    PostMexBlog - 01

Well, let’s get to it shall we? The Monday right after I got back from Mexico, I got a fantastic visitor from the West Coast, Mr Daniel Baum.
    PostMexBlog - 02

    We played some pool.
    PostMexBlog - 03

Then went down to the club Avalon to check out The Liars. I hadn’t really heard their stuff before, but they played a good set. Just noisy at times, but they had canny double drumming thing going that made us enjoy they show.
    PostMexBlog - 04

Nick filmed them, and made this very cool dissolve concert video.
    PostMexBlog - 05

And I caught the money shot of the night.
    PostMexBlog - 06

Back at Nick’s place, I met his girl Belangere, who’s visiting him from belle Paris.
    PostMexBlog - 07

We chilled, catching up with Baum.
    PostMexBlog - 09 PostMexBlog - 08

    And screened the concert footage.
    PostMexBlog - 10
Baum ended the night a bit scared.
    PostMexBlog - 11

But a Ronan-Nagle-created floor pick brought him back.
    PostMexBlog - 12

On Baum’s last night, we took him out for a little Indian.
    PostMexBlog - 13

This delicious place Robert had been too.
    PostMexBlog - 15 PostMexBlog - 14

We met up with his ex, and went to a bar. then i wished him adieau, back to the west coast.
    PostMexBlog - 16

    Daniel, a man among men.
    PostMexBlog - 17

The next day, Charlotte invited me to a reading of her new script.
    PostMexBlog - 18

Caught with some peeps I hadn’t seen in many a moon. Like songstress/tech wizard Digitelle.
    PostMexBlog - 19

    School creating Rebecca.
    PostMexBlog - 20

    Colliegate sports channel producing Dave.
    PostMexBlog - 21

And this other fellow Wes alum, who’s name I forget, but who has already appeared on this blog as the man making  out on New Years.
    PostMexBlog - 22

    Charlotte started the reading.
    PostMexBlog - 23

And because some scheduled actors did not make it, I got to read a few extras’ parts.
    PostMexBlog - 24

    It was  a great reading.
    PostMexBlog - 25

    People really dug the moustache.
    PostMexBlog - 26

I woke up the next morning watching my cousin Brett, an columnist for the Wall Steet Journal, on TV opining about the Israel situation.
    PostMexBlog - 27

On July 1st, Jenna and I hit up the Salsa at Lincoln Center.
    PostMexBlog - 28

Where they had a delicious array of sculpture boats.
    PostMexBlog - 29

The night continued at Rosa Mexicano.
    PostMexBlog - 30

Which has the coolest sculpture I’ve seen since those boats. A whole series of arching divers, mimicking the cliff divers of Acapulco.
    PostMexBlog - 31

The foods good too, by the way, especially the guacamole they prepare fresh in front of you.
    PostMexBlog - 33 PostMexBlog - 32

    Right cutie?
    PostMexBlog - 34

Five days later, I hit the band shell at prospect park for little Broken Social Scene.
    PostMexBlog - 35

    With john and annie.
    PostMexBlog - 36

    And nick and berangere.
    PostMexBlog - 37

    Planes kept flying over.
    PostMexBlog - 38

And it was a damn fine showing by a very cool canuck band.
    PostMexBlog - 39

    The subway back was packed.
    PostMexBlog - 40

    With fellow concert goers.
    PostMexBlog - 41

But I sported the shirt the best.
    PostMexBlog - 42

The next day my dad showed up.
    PostMexBlog - 43

    Look at the generations united.
    PostMexBlog - 44

On the weekend I had to work, but I still fit in some time with Cate alum Shane.
    PostMexBlog - 45

He brought a friend from college, visiting the college, and went of to Israel fully paid for by the government.
    PostMexBlog - 46

At night I met up with the newly arrived fam for some Saigon Grill.
    PostMexBlog - 47

Then walked down the block to Lalo’s, the place with the great desserts.
    PostMexBlog - 48

    And awesome lights.
    PostMexBlog - 49

A strange session of hamming it up for the cam followed, including Dad.
    PostMexBlog - 50

    Phoebe.
    PostMexBlog - 51

    Cailtin.
    PostMexBlog - 52

    Phoebe.
    PostMexBlog - 53

    Dad.
    PostMexBlog - 54

    I think everyone enjoyed it.
    PostMexBlog - 55

Sunday came around, which brought the World Cup final. And one to remember, with the most memorable exit for a retiring star.
    PostMexBlog - 56

Monday, I finally made it to this Ad business poker tourney, which is very well set up.
    PostMexBlog - 57

And ended up winning the 300 first prize! Dope!
    PostMexBlog - 58

But before I went home, I visited the fam to say goodbye.
    PostMexBlog - 59

Monday I walked right by some angels.
    PostMexBlog - 60

And said good bye to my dad, who left one day later than everybody else.
    PostMexBlog - 61

Sometimes you just get this feeling like everything in the world makes sense.
    PostMexBlog - 62

Then someone beats the shit out of you with a whip to shape you into ship.
    PostMexBlog - 63

Thursdays in the summer mean Nice Shoes BBQs in my industry.
    PostMexBlog - 64

    These massively packed rooftop affairs.
    PostMexBlog - 65

Blasts from PS’s past made an appearance. Like old runner Joe.
    PostMexBlog - 66

    And old Ass. Pro. Lauren.
    PostMexBlog - 67

Friday, t thought that Indian place had been so good, that I took Jenna.
    PostMexBlog - 68

    Delicious.
    PostMexBlog - 69

    She then bugged out.
    PostMexBlog - 70

Saturday, we made it back to MOMA for the DADA exhibit.
    PostMexBlog - 71

No pictures allowed, but I sneaked some in, like this glorious vagina dentate.
    PostMexBlog - 72

    Duchamp’s infamous urinal.
    PostMexBlog - 73

    And tools.
    PostMexBlog - 74

I love the new tall gallery.
    PostMexBlog - 75

There were too many paintings I loved that I couldn’t shoot, so I just cheated and shot the book.
    PostMexBlog - 76

    Just awesome.
    PostMexBlog - 77

    Awesome.
    PostMexBlog - 78

    Awesome.
    PostMexBlog - 79

    Awesome.
    PostMexBlog - 80

We finished the visit with a sit in the sculpture garden.
    PostMexBlog - 81

    Right next to the fountain.
    PostMexBlog - 82

A great place to do the crossword on a Sunday afternoon.
    PostMexBlog - 83

    But the fun continued. Jenna.
    PostMexBlog - 84

    Hailed a train down.
    PostMexBlog - 85

On our way to the sumptuous Labratorio del Gelato.
    PostMexBlog - 86

Only the tastiest ice cream in New York.
    PostMexBlog - 87

Wednesday, byran from work said good bye to go cut at some other place.
    PostMexBlog - 88

So we had a raucous dinner for him.
    PostMexBlog - 89

Even fellow PS retiree Patrick made it out.
    PostMexBlog - 90

    As did the arm wrestling.
    PostMexBlog - 91

    Jenna took everybody on.
    PostMexBlog - 92

While bryan’s girlfriend looked on incredulous.
    PostMexBlog - 93

Phew! Quite a party, and quite a catch up. And this wasn’t even half of what has happened.
    PostMexBlog - 94

July 17, 2006

  • Day 7.

We awoke for breakfast with a dear old family friend, Ximena.
    MexBlogR - 210

Then just lazed the day away. Sometimes on vacation, you just have to chillax. Anyway, dinner was served at the fancy dining hall.
    IMG_1794_2

    Jenna loved it.
    MexBlogR - 212

And Caitlin spinned this thing for some cooky visuals.
    MexBlogR - 213

Later that night, we got the whole family in the pool.
    MexBlogR - 214

Where we just sat all in a row.
    MexBlogR - 216

Just kidding, we found several inane little games to compete at. It was tremendous Stephens’ fun.
    MexBlogR - 217

Jenna got so carried away, she faux-hawked it.
    MexBlogR - 218

She also got scraped up in her victorious championship rounds of “get out of the pool feet first.” Not a bad night.
    MexBlogR - 219

    Day 8.

We awoke to the coolest belt ever.
    MexBlogR - 220

And went off to a Mexican shopping classic: The Bazar Sabado.
    MexBlogR - 221

Which made one Miss Jenna-Marie very happy. (I mean, check out those new earrings I got her for a buck fifty!)
    MexBlogR - 222

The Bazaar is cool little gathering of merchants.
    MexBlogR - 223

    That sells all these thingamobobs.
    MexBlogR - 224

    Ceramics.
    MexBlogR - 225 MexBlogR - 227

Even a sculpture artist that uses junk.
    MexBlogR - 228 MexBlogR - 229

    Masks.
    MexBlogR - 230

    Almost everything to adorn anything.
    MexBlogR - 231 MexBlogR - 232

We had to get back, because that day Mexico played Argentina in the elimination round 16. Regrettably, the lost. Boo hoo.
    MexBlogR - 233

That night, our last, we got a dinner treat at the San Angelinn.
    MexBlogR - 234

A hoity-toity place, we all dressed up.
    MexBlogR - 235

    My dad even went hipster.
    MexBlogR - 236

    The food was delectable.
    MexBlogR - 237

I even gave my sister a belated birthday present, previously bought at the bazaar.
    MexBlogR - 238

The San Angelinn has a beautiful garden, which we perused.
    MexBlogR - 239

    It’s pretty dope.
    MexBlogR - 240

    We came back for pictures.
    MexBlogR - 241

Some were more eager to stay than others.
    MexBlogR - 242

So on this last night, I decided to visit my mom. We have a weird relationship, and I don’t see her often, but it was good to enter my old home.
    MexBlogR - 243

    And see the great lady.
    MexBlogR - 244

We also got a blast of the past.
    MexBlogR - 245

Checking out my very first pieces of art.
    MexBlogR - 246

    This being my piece-de-résistance.
    MexBlogR - 247

    But I dabbled in woodwork.
    MexBlogR - 248

    And crayons.
    MexBlogR - 249 MexBlogR - 250

    Even on glass windows.
    MexBlogR - 251

Look at me when I was young.
    MexBlogR - 252

And check out the house, a nice wooded look.
    MexBlogR - 253

With a banister I used to slide on.
    MexBlogR - 254

    The kitchen.
    MexBlogR - 255

    The dining room.
    MexBlogR - 256

    A little living room.
    MexBlogR - 257

    My grandparents.
    MexBlogR - 258

    And the whole family.
    MexBlogR - 259

    Fue muy bueno verte, Mami.
    MexBlogR - 260

    Gracias por todo.
    MexBlogR - 261

    I loved the cacti.
    MexBlogR - 262

Then I returned to my father’s home. Which, you might say, I didn’t blog. But you would be wrong, I did this last time I was back, check it out.
    MexBlogR - 263

Being the last night, I had very little time to add to the Design Trip video, so I did. Putting in a dad’s art piece.
    MexBlogR - 264

    Tom flying.
    MexBlogR - 265

    And Caitlin driving.
    MexBlogR - 266

    Last Day. (boo hoo).

    Said goodbye to my bunny.
    MexBlogR - 267

    Got sick and threw up.
    MexBlogR - 268

Said good bye to a one day guest, Cristophe, friend of Sams who was off to rent a car.
    MexBlogR - 269

    Said goodbye to my dad.
    MexBlogR - 270

Survived a gaggle of screaming kids.
    MexBlogR - 271

Which made Jenna oh so happy.
    MexBlogR - 272

But we made it after all.
    MexBlogR - 273

Not a bad vacation after all.

  • Mexico Continued

    Day 4
This would be our most touristy day. We got on a Hotel tour of the Pyramids.
    MexBlogR - 073

On our way out we saw some naked protesters (these still have their undies, I missed the fully naked wankers which hurt my blogging spirit, but alas).
    MexBlogR - 074

    We were off.
    MexBlogR - 075

We made a quick pitstop at the Church of Three Generations: Aztec, Colonial, and Modern (unpictured).
    MexBlogR - 076

An hour later, we got a this guy as a quick pre-pyramid tourist shop.
    MexBlogR - 077

He showed us the fermenting maguey.
    MexBlogR - 078

    The artisans at work.
    MexBlogR - 080

And then gave us a couple of shots.
    MexBlogR - 081

Of the real deal pulque and tequila.
    MexBlogR - 082

Just the better to try and sell us all the million little trinkets and serapes.
    MexBlogR - 084 MexBlogR - 083

But we held strong, because the outdoors had the real treasures:
    MexBlogR - 085

    Every type of cactus imaginable.
    MexBlogR - 088 MexBlogR - 087 MexBlogR - 086

Okay fine, Jenna did succumb to the trinket pushers, with a very dope sunburst.
    MexBlogR - 089

And then, ta DA! We get our first glimpse of the pyramid of the sun.
    MexBlogR - 090

But the tour first took us to the old houses, where we saw the very well and symbolically painted walls.
    MexBlogR - 092 MexBlogR - 091

Wouldn’t you love to live here?
    MexBlogR - 093

I mean, look at your neighbor, the incredible Pyramid of the Moon, built almost 800 years ago.
    MexBlogR - 094

We knew what we had to do.
    MexBlogR - 095

We had to tame it with our climbing feet. Which we did.
    MexBlogR - 096

But lo, what light through yonder archeological site breaks? Could that be our next nemesis?
    MexBlogR - 097

The even taller Pyramid of the Sun?
    MexBlogR - 098

    Why yes it is.
    MexBlogR - 099

And we took it all with even fewer breaks. Look at me at the top, celebrating my upstepping skillz.
    MexBlogR - 100

Afterwards, we hit a pitstop at a restaurant, and I quaffed my thrist.
    MexBlogR - 101

I thought we had seen enough for one day, but the tour had one more surprise for us, a visit to the Catedral de la Virgen Maria.
    MexBlogR - 102

That’s the old version, which broke, so they built a new modern one.
    MexBlogR - 103

They even got the pope to bless it.
    MexBlogR - 104

Check out the cool outdoor bells.
    MexBlogR - 105

And the façade of the oldschool churchy.
    MexBlogR - 107 MexBlogR - 106

And the inside, which was being worked on.
    MexBlogR - 108 MexBlogR - 109

All these Mexican churches have nooks with different saints, so you can make personal offerings and prayers.
    MexBlogR - 110 MexBlogR - 111

We then moved on to the new school church.
    MexBlogR - 112 MexBlogR - 113

    Which had these cool doors.
    MexBlogR - 114

    With cool stained glass.
    MexBlogR - 116 MexBlogR - 115

The inside was also pretty impressive.
    MexBlogR - 117

    With a cool huge organ.
    MexBlogR - 118

Did I mention it was gigantic?
    MexBlogR - 119

As the legend has it, a young Indian peasant, while walking on the hill which the church stands on, heard a strange voice. It was the Virgin Mary, who told him that he had to go tell the archbishop that she wanted a shrine built right there.
    MexBlogR - 120

So the young peasant went, and was denied, the archbishop said he needed a sign. So he met with the virgin again, and said, shouldn’t you get someone with more clout, but she said the whole point was it had to come from someone lowly.
    MexBlogR - 121

So she sent him to pick some roses to show the archbishop, which would be the sign. So he picked them, and wrapped them on his white linen serape, and when he presented them to the archbishop, the image of the Holy Blessed Virgin appeared on the cloth. Which now hangs on the place of honor.
    MexBlogR - 122

The gift shop had every sort of effigy you need.
    MexBlogR - 124 MexBlogR - 123

    Including the jewish virgin.
    MexBlogR - 125

Thus concluded a great day of touring. Many thanks to our guide, whose name I now forget.
    MexBlogR - 126

To finish off the afternoon in style, we went for a swim.
    MexBlogR - 127

Which also helped ease the massive burns we both had.
    MexBlogR - 128

That afternoon, my older brother Luis Jose finally arrived, making the Stephens’ family almost complete.
    MexBlogR - 129

And I enjoyed a Stephens' home delicacy, toasted brownie with haagen daazs ice cream. The key is in the toasting.
    MexBlogR - 130

    Day 5.

This would be another big tourist day. We started nearby, at the Museum-Home of one Diego Rivera.
    MexBlogR - 131

The house has a good design.
    MexBlogR - 132

    With brightly colored walls.
    MexBlogR - 133

But unfortunately, they were remodeling so we only got to see one side of the house. But it was still plenty.
    MexBlogR - 134

    Isn’t the resemblance uncanny.
    MexBlogR - 135

    I know it was here.
    MexBlogR - 136

And if you didn’t know, that there is a practice bull head, for bull fighting.
    MexBlogR - 137

Told you the architecture was cool, I mean, check out these stairs.
    MexBlogR - 138

Next stop, the truly marvelous Frida Kahlo museum.
    MexBlogR - 139

They didn’t allow us to take pictures inside, so all you get is pictures of postcards. Nice dining room, huh?
    MexBlogR - 140

    And what about the bedroom?
    MexBlogR - 141

Thanks postcards (fuck you, museum guards).
    MexBlogR - 142

    The outdoor garden/plaza was awesome.
    MexBlogR - 143

I had to step up my coolness factor a notch.
    MexBlogR - 144

Inside the gift shop, they had some good examples of the old Mexican tradition of “papel picado.”
    MexBlogR - 146

Which means picked paper, for obvious reasons.
    MexBlogR - 145

    This wall always impresses me.
    MexBlogR - 147

Damn, the couple really liked those huge devils.
    MexBlogR - 148

You know Jenna and I did.
    MexBlogR - 149

We finished the classic museum trifecta with the Trosky Museum.
    MexBlogR - 150

    Which had a graffiti exhibition.
    MexBlogR - 151

    Some pretty cool stuff.
    MexBlogR - 153 MexBlogR - 152

Even the meta kind, the graffitied graffiti bottle.
    MexBlogR - 154

And why have a museum for an old Soviet? Because he was shot, under stalinistic orders, right here in his house in Mexico City.
    MexBlogR - 155

    Buried there too.
    MexBlogR - 156

Right next to the chicken coop.
    MexBlogR - 157

For most people, that would be a good day, but we kept on, going to the old plaza at Coyoacan.
    MexBlogR - 158

The church was cool and deep.
    MexBlogR - 159

    With magnificently ornate frames.
    MexBlogR - 160

    And a cool little apse.
    MexBlogR - 162

Outside we met a vendor with an interesting array.
    MexBlogR - 164

    And some beautiful lamps.
    MexBlogR - 165

We finished the toursity day with classic sorbets from the famous Helados Siberia.
    MexBlogR - 166

We came back to find a wonderful outdoor picnic.
    MexBlogR - 167

Replete with the ultimate Mexican delicacy, a perfectly ripe mango.
    MexBlogR - 168

Unfortunately, we got rained out, so my dad and brother’s Saint’s Day celebration got moved indoors.
    MexBlogR - 169

Caitlin was psyched. Oh, wait, did I mention she got her wisdom teeth pulled?
    MexBlogR - 170

Thus the end of another day.
    MexBlogR - 171

    Day 6.

Only one major TT (tourist trap) remained, the city center. Where Mexico City’s tallest building, La Torre LatinoAmericana lies.
    MexBlogR - 172

    Balking at the earthquakes.
    MexBlogR - 173

Right next door, El Palacio De Bellas Artes, a museum and concert hall, that sinks about an inch every ten years because the city was built on swamp land.
    MexBlogR - 174

Inside, there was a temporary exhibition on Vladi, a painter I had never heard of, but who had some cool surprises.
    MexBlogR - 175

The permanent collection houses some huge murals from many of the Mexican greats, including Orozco.
    MexBlogR - 176

    Siqueiros.
    MexBlogR - 177

    Who I thoroughly enjoyed.
    MexBlogR - 178

And never forget the old frog himself, Diego Rivera.
    MexBlogR - 179

With my favorite mural of all, Man at the Center of Philosophy and Technology.
    MexBlogR - 180

All our art viewing was very rudely interrupted by a fire drill.
    MexBlogR - 181

So we went to one of my favorite old buildings, The Azulejos.
    MexBlogR - 182

Which is totally covered in these gorgeous blue tiles.
    MexBlogR - 183

    Nice, huh?
    MexBlogR - 184

Then we wandered to a church across the street.
    MexBlogR - 185

    With a baroque façade.
    MexBlogR - 186

And continuing the trend, a very ornate interior.
    MexBlogR - 187

    Complete with thumbs up Jesus.
    MexBlogR - 188

    And Dustin oracle.
    MexBlogR - 189

Outside, Jose Luis Cuevas had some huge sculptures.
    MexBlogR - 190

We then traveled a few blocks to the biggest church in South America.
    MexBlogR - 191

Doesn’t look that big from afar, does it?
    MexBlogR - 192

    But it’s big.
    MexBlogR - 193

And it has it’s own black Jesus.
    MexBlogR - 194

    Large organ.
    MexBlogR - 195

    And reconstruction.
    MexBlogR - 196

    Next door, El Palacio Nacional.
    MexBlogR - 197

A big beaurocratic complex that houses the largest Diego River Murals.
    MexBlogR - 198 MexBlogR - 201 MexBlogR - 200

They go on for several walls.
    MexBlogR - 199

    Covering Mexican history.
    MexBlogR - 202 MexBlogR - 203

Once again, our return was blessed with a delicious garden lunch.
    MexBlogR - 204

Where Phoebe and Sam finally arrived, making the whole set of kids present.
    MexBlogR - 205

    Then my dad surprised Karen.
    MexBlogR - 207

Cause it was their 21st Anniversary. She got the diamond earings she always wanted.
    MexBlogR - 208

For night entertainment, we had another round of Dictionary, which Caitlin took down easily.
    MexBlogR - 209

Don't worry the rest will come later.

  • Mexico, The Homeland Awaits…

Yay! Vacation! Jenna and I leave the overworked PS to get some much needed R and mother f-in’ R. So let’s begin:

    Day 1
Jenna does not like flying, so here we are, very early in the morning facing an amazingly large line at the Delta counter.
    MexBlogR - 001

Jenna, trying to calm her nerves.
    MexBlogR - 002

But we had nothing to be nervous about, we survived and arrived at the street I grew up in.
    MexBlogR - 003

To the house I grew up in.
    MexBlogR - 004

    Met up with the folks.
    MexBlogR - 005

    Had some much needed lunch.
    MexBlogR - 006

Saw tommy and Caitlin. Or just tommy right then.
    MexBlogR - 007

Then dad took us up to his studio.
    MexBlogR - 008

    Jenna loved what she saw.
    MexBlogR - 009

No, I mean, she really loved it.
    MexBlogR - 010

    Dad with his art.
    MexBlogR - 011

    I found his tools too.
    MexBlogR - 012

Okay, last vogue pose in studio.
    MexBlogR - 013

OH MAN! It’s my rabbit! I just love her.
    MexBlogR - 014

For dinner, we took jenna to a Mexican culinary delight, the almost fast food but still delicious Taco Inn.
    MexBlogR - 015

    We all loved it.
    MexBlogR - 017 MexBlogR - 016

    Day 2
The morning greeted us with a delicious breakfast.
    MexBlogR - 018

But we were off to the Anthropological Museum. Except we weren’t. My
dad hadn’t updated a sticker on the car, and to make a terrible 30
mins. short, I got hosed by three  enterprising cops for 70 dollars.
Don’t we all just love mexico.
    MexBlogR - 019

Whatevs, we make do. On with the good parts of the vaca. Like the cool as fountain in the middle of the museum.
    MexBlogR - 020

    This chunky fella.
    MexBlogR - 021

    My best monolithic impersonation.
    MexBlogR - 022

    And the first blowjob doll.
    MexBlogR - 024

En exemplary piece of from acient times.
    MexBlogR - 023

    That’s some pretty feathers.
    MexBlogR - 025

This guy looks a bit bored.
    MexBlogR - 026

But this one looks ready for action.
    MexBlogR - 027

    Look, a beautiful outdoor reproduction.
    MexBlogR - 028

And my favorite piece of the museum.
    MexBlogR - 029

On the way out, we were lucky enough to glimpse an ancient native American tradition. Los Voladores De Papampla.
    MexBlogR - 030

It’s a crazy stunt that’s kind of fun to watch. These guys climb this terribly long pole with no safety harnesses.
    MexBlogR - 031

    Wind up this long rope.
    MexBlogR - 032

Collect money from the watchers by.
    MexBlogR - 033

    And just swing down.
    MexBlogR - 034

    In a beautiful steady arc.
    MexBlogR - 035

    All the way down.
    MexBlogR - 036

Upon our return home, we celebrated Lous Stephens Jr. for being the amazing father that he is.
    MexBlogR - 037

    Look at us all celebrating.
    MexBlogR - 038

Ooo, and first pictures of my cutie dog sugar!
    MexBlogR - 039

I loves me my dog. She is just the cutest bundle of love.
    MexBlogR - 040

And why not end the day with that needle sculpture?
    MexBlogR - 041

    Day 3
We had an early breakfast to meet some kids on their way through the city to some biosphere project.
    MexBlogR - 042

Fresh papaya. No better fruit than fresh Mexican fruit.
    MexBlogR - 043

We then went swimming, sorry no pictures yet, what with the water and
all. But we did have a delicious lunch. Look at young Caitlin, prepping
    the salad.
    MexBlogR - 044

Afterward, dad got invited to see an artist’s work, so off we went.
    MexBlogR - 045

Through the streets of a city plastered for an upcoming election.
    MexBlogR - 046

When we arrived, we were greeted by this.
    MexBlogR - 047

Then some interesting art. She likes gestures, and small connected frames. This one is about a healer.
    MexBlogR - 048 MexBlogR - 049

This about, well, I’ll let you guess.
    MexBlogR - 050 MexBlogR - 051

My least favorite was on soccer.
    MexBlogR - 052

And the best one dealt with the Nacho Libre inspiration Fra Relampago.
    MexBlogR - 053 MexBlogR - 054

Look, I told you it was small.
    MexBlogR - 055

And here is the artist herself, who’s name I just forgot. I’ll link her soon.
    MexBlogR - 056

She was very cool and gave us full explanation.
    MexBlogR - 057

    Going through all her stuff.
    MexBlogR - 058

    Thank you.
    MexBlogR - 059

Upon returning, I had to go through stuff. The ‘rents are cleaning house.
    MexBlogR - 060

We found some cool shit. Like this original colecovision remote.
    MexBlogR - 061

    A cutie cabbage patch kid.
    MexBlogR - 062

We also had to go through all the old VHS.
    MexBlogR - 063 MexBlogR - 064

And amidst it all I even found myself.
    MexBlogR - 065

Look at all this stuff we’re giving away. Gonna make some orphans pretty happy.
    MexBlogR - 066

Then I prepared an old Mexican tradition.
    MexBlogR - 067

Jicama with lime and chilli powder.
    MexBlogR - 068

As we enjoyed this classic delicacy.
    MexBlogR - 069

We played a marvelous game of Dictionary.
    MexBlogR - 070

In which I squeeked a win because young Jenna couldn’t keep her laugh out of a reading.
    MexBlogR - 071

And so we finish the day with yet another cute picture of my dog.
    MexBlogR - 072

That's only 3 of seven days, the rest will be up soon, just be grateful i could fit this in my busy schedule.

June 27, 2006

  • More Cuming

    So i went to Mexico.
    MexBlog1 - 1

    Saw my dad's house.
    MexBlog1 - 3

    And my mom's house.
    MexBlog1 - 2

Came back and Danny B. was there to great meet.
    MexBlog1 - 4

    More Coming.

  • Birth Zox Card Que CockRock…

Upon my return from Praha, 6.6.06 came around, which can only mean one thing… Phoebe’s birthday.
    ReturnBlog - 01

So I joined her at this cool little LES bar, Les Enfant Terribles, for some celebration.
    ReturnBlog - 02

    Jenna made it out.
    ReturnBlog - 03

    As did the Cunis Sam.
    ReturnBlog - 04

    And the friends (more unpictured).
    ReturnBlog - 05

Happy Birthday Sis! (you can’t even guess how old she is, she still looks so good, but I’ll give you a hint, she’s the oldest of 5).
    ReturnBlog - 06

I couldn’t stay too long, because just up the street, old Catey Eli was rocking it out at CBGBs with his The Zox. I met up with other cate alums for some Miller fanship.
    ReturnBlog - 07

Jenna and I did our usual concert canoodling.
    ReturnBlog - 08

    Dvorak loved it.
    ReturnBlog - 09

Brent, who I had not seen in fucking years, represented.
    ReturnBlog - 10

    Of course, Zox rocked.
    ReturnBlog - 11

You know Ryang was there to rock.
    ReturnBlog - 12

Then trying to get my picture with the rockstar himself, I had to wait on and wade through a small groupie contingent that wanted him all to themselves. (eli loving it every minute of it).
    ReturnBlog - 13

At the end I met John’s new girl. They also got together at work, so of course I forced the work couples pic.
    ReturnBlog - 14

Friday was a return to some poker.
    ReturnBlog - 15

I played a very loosy goosy game, getting too cocky on bluffs and chasing to boot, and found myself down sixty. So I buckled down and grinded out to about forty, only to take Bomba down with some tricky over betting when I had two pair right at the end to come out ten bucks profit.
    ReturnBlog - 17

But the story does not end there, it was commented that Ryan has been the butt of the poker areas of this blog recently. I don’t know why, but I have been getting his number the last few weeks, but he played much tighter and stronger this time, hardly talking when he was involved with a hand, and betting forcibly. And when tournament time came around, and I tried to bluff him out, he made a good call and sent me home packing losing thirty dollars, ushering me off the table with the very apropos “Put that in your little blog!”
    ReturnBlog - 16

Saturday night, after watching the cute, but sometimes a bit studid “Prarie Home Companion,” Jenna got attacked by the sodomizing patriotic firehydrant.
    ReturnBlog - 18

And we witnessed some indie movie film a block away from my house.
    ReturnBlog - 19

Sunday, Mexico defeated Iran in the World Cup, thank god, and Jenna and I went to the Blues and BBQ festival.
    ReturnBlog - 20

Where we met up with her friends.
    ReturnBlog - 21

Waited in a long ass line.
    ReturnBlog - 22

To get some down home brisket from a master pitboss.
    ReturnBlog - 23

    MMMMnnnnn! Delicious.
    ReturnBlog - 24

And what do we do in  the park with our Q?
    ReturnBlog - 25

Why play phase 10 of course. I had never played before, but ended up teaching the salty vets a lesson on the rules by actually reading them.
    ReturnBlog - 26

I checked out my favorite comic book shop nearby only to find fellow Wesleyanite of ’02 Genvieve working there.
    ReturnBlog - 27

Monday, Jenna took me out to the Starlight Mints at Bowery Ballroom.
    ReturnBlog - 28

She wasn’t having any fun, even though I though they were okay, so I had to take it up a notch. Sometimes you just got to rock out with your cock out.
    ReturnBlog - 29

Wednesday, Jenna and I missed a special work diner cause we had to, well, work. So they let us go out by ourselves on the company to get some din din. Thanks PS!
    ReturnBlog - 30

Which brings us to next week, where I am taking Jenna to mexico for some Vaca, so don’t expect an update until after that. Till then, tootles!
    ReturnBlog - 32

  • Praha Ways…

So. Work sent me off to Prague for ten days to assist Maury on a new Dell job with rush schedule. The seven hour plane ride was no fun, to say the least.
    PrahaBlog - 01

Especially when the nice young lady to our left had a fucking cat, which I am allergic too.
    PrahaBlog - 02

But we survived and got to the beautiful Hotel Aria all in one piece.
    PrahaBlog - 03

And it’s a pretty dope hotel indeed. Check out my room.
    PrahaBlog - 04

    My soft, warm, cushy bed.
    PrahaBlog - 05

    My orchid.
    PrahaBlog - 06
    The cool little lobby.
    PrahaBlog - 07

The view from the roof deck.
    PrahaBlog - 08

The hotel itself from said roof.
    PrahaBlog - 09

The only time to do tourist stuff was our arriving day, but I took a longer nap than I should have, so I got to a late start that I would later forget. I did get to see some Czech hippies banging drums and turning a wheel, though.
    PrahaBlog - 10

And I don’t know about you, but when I buy art, I also want to fakt.
    PrahaBlog - 11

I headed off to the one of the premier tourist sites, the Karluv Most (Charles Bridge to you non-Prahians)
    PrahaBlog - 12

Which was crowded as fucking heck.
    PrahaBlog - 13

If I had blogged my Europe trip, which I will someday I swear, you would know that everytime I tried to cross this bridge, it rained. Well, the curse continued yet again.
    PrahaBlog - 14

Beggars over there are all business. They pick a position stick with it.
    PrahaBlog - 15

Next in the tour is the magical main square crazy clock.
    PrahaBlog - 16

These weird saints come out when a skeleton pulls a chord.
    PrahaBlog - 17

    And so do everybody else.
    PrahaBlog - 18

I continued the tourist spirit by ingesting some local pastry which gets roll fried right in front of you.
    PrahaBlog - 19

Relishing it in the gorgeous plaza.
    PrahaBlog - 20 PrahaBlog - 21

Then I finished the circuit by hitting the old jewish synagoge.
    PrahaBlog - 22

    Old jewish cemetery.
    PrahaBlog - 23

And the crazy soviet park with a weird oil rig thing in the middle.
    PrahaBlog - 24

The next day, Maury and I met our doom. The closet like room we would spend 15 hour days in.
    PrahaBlog - 25

Maury tried to stay in there and cut most of the time, but once I did my two hours of dailies, I tried to get onto the set.
    PrahaBlog - 26

    Which had so many extras.
    PrahaBlog - 28

And this rancid nacho cheese platter I could not stop eating.
    PrahaBlog - 29

    I even joined the firm.
    PrahaBlog - 30

On the way home I showed the creatives a thing or two by doing some long exposure, which they then emulated on their own cam.
    PrahaBlog - 31 PrahaBlog - 32

And maury and I ate at the restaurant next door, which had a cool talble for two.
    PrahaBlog - 33

    On the ceiling.
    PrahaBlog - 34

Next morning I hit the incredible breakfast spread at the Coda restaurant.
    PrahaBlog - 35

    With its insanely ornamented watermelon.
    PrahaBlog - 36

This would be my breakfast of champions.
    PrahaBlog - 37

The shoot moved to the second studio, where I found this cool little mock up.
    PrahaBlog - 38

And the look got more futuristic.
    PrahaBlog - 39

Found this puppy, and took it for a spin.
    PrahaBlog - 40 PrahaBlog - 41

As well as this precaution sign for jenna.
    PrahaBlog - 42

And the D-force (my didn’t stick work nickname) sticker.
    PrahaBlog - 43

Food on set is usually a bit weird, but in Praha they take it to the next level. Case in point the roast pig spit.
    PrahaBlog - 44 PrahaBlog - 45

And the hot dog sodomizer. You puncture the bread witht the spike, then you fuck the whole with the dog and eat it.
    PrahaBlog - 46

Besides that, the food trailer treated us okay. They had to, they catered Van Helsing and XXX, for crying out loud.
    PrahaBlog - 47 PrahaBlog - 48

That night we drove into the sunset to hit the hotel.
    PrahaBlog - 49

This would be the only night we made it back before 11pm, so we went to eat at a very hip nice restaurnt, Kampa Fish, which we got to just on a lark. I went with the paint your own fish option.
    PrahaBlog - 50

    Which tasted pretty damn good.
    PrahaBlog - 52 PrahaBlog - 51

The last day I went stripes.
    PrahaBlog - 53

    Caught some beautiful clouds.
    PrahaBlog - 54

Visited the set for the last time.
    PrahaBlog - 55

Manicured my moustache to its widest presentation ever.
    PrahaBlog - 56

And finally said goodbye to the wonderful Prague Studios.
    PrahaBlog - 57

Knowing I needed to not sleep to catch some zzz on the flight, I wasted some time putting on my slippies.
    PrahaBlog - 58

And running a bath. I hadn’t had one of those in years, and boy was it relaxing. I highly recommend it.
    PrahaBlog - 59

For the flight, I had to carry four film flats from the shoot. It was supposed to be two, but they surprised me with four and it sucked. Them shits are heav-ee.
    PrahaBlog - 60

Lets just say, both maury and I were ready for home.
    PrahaBlog - 61

Especially when this annoying guy, who had been on our trup over, appeared yet again to chatter his loudmouth observations away.
    PrahaBlog - 62

There was only one solution, Tylenol pm to the rescue.
    PrahaBlog - 63

And not even much of a resuce, the 8 hour flight back sucked a hairy ass.
    PrahaBlog - 64

But I made it to my company car home.
    PrahaBlog - 65

And finally got to hug my baby.
    PrahaBlog - 66

    Thanks Praha, for everything.
    PrahaBlog - 67

(this subsequent week has been busy as well, but we shall get to it later.)
